When I think of a winery, I think of rolling hills, vast landscapes, and grapevines galore. But a winery in downtown Louisville, Kentucky? And equally, you might think that Louisville only has bourbon on offer, but you’d be wrong. Introducing the Old 502 Winery – Kentucky’s only urban winery! The Old 502 Winery is located at the very end of ‘Whiskey Row’, and is a great spot for wine tasting in Louisville KY. I have also added a great brunch recommendation, to get you all ready for the boozy day ahead!

Old 502 Winery
The Wines
The wine tastings included 6 wines (there are 13 to choose from) for $8. The atmosphere is cozy, the service friendly and the wines were really unique and off the wall. John chose 6, and I chose 6 different ones, so that we could share and try as many as possible.

The Tour
Tours of the winery production area are available on certain days, but they are worked around the production schedule, so it is best to contact Old 502 Winery to check before you visit. Using locally sourced grapes, but growing none themselves, Old 502 is a production house only, rather than a vineyard. They err on the side of ‘hipster’ and have a funky fresh approach that certainly makes their wines more approachable than traditional tasting rooms.

Shop & Snacks
If you get peckish during your wine tasting, Old 502 offer a range of meats, cheeses and popcorn to tide you over. They also have a shop, where you can purchase some of the wines you have just tasted, and any seasonal gift baskets they are offering. They also offer an event space if you are looking to hold a larger gathering. Old 502 Winery is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Funny story…
One person in our group was adamant that he did not drink wine, didn’t like wine and wasn’t going to try it. We convinced him that we were on vacation and he had to try it. He ended up liking the Old 502 wines so much, he bought some to take home! That should say all that you need to know about the wines on offer.
Where to eat before (or after) your Louisville wine tasting
Bristol Bar & Grille
The Bristol Bar & Grille offers a hearty lunch and dinner menu 7 days a week. But on Sundays they offer a fantastic brunch buffet with everything from fried chicken and waffles, to Weisenberger cheese grits and all the usual brunch classics. They also have $2 Mimosas and a ‘make your own Bloody Mary’ bar!

The Hot Brown Bloody Mary
There is the secret Bloody Mary not listed on the Bristol Bar’s menu, so take note. The Hot Brown Bloody Mary is based on the famous Hot Brown sandwich, which rose to fame during the Prohibition. It is a traditional spicy Bloody Mary, but with turkey, cheese, bacon, tomatoes, and fried cheese (think flat, thin cheese straws) on top! It is heaven in a glass for Foodies like me. Remember, you must ask for it by name, as you will not find it on the menu.

While you’re visiting Kentucky, have you ever thought of seeing Mammoth Caves?
Wine Tasting in Louisville Kentucky
We loved our wine tasting at Old 502 Winery, the products are really funky and interesting, and there is enough variety to please everyone. We are very thankful we visited Bristol Bar & Grill for brunch BEFORE our wine tasting in Louisville KY, as it kept us level after all that yummy wine! I recommend spending a few days in the Louisville area, so you can partake in both a wine tasting and explore some of the bourbon distilleries in the area too.

Hi there! My name is Rebecca Hill and I am the new marketing manager for Old 502 Winery! I saw this and loved reading such positive views on our tasting room and our wine. I also noticed that this was almost a year ago. For this reason I would love to have you and a group of 3 other people come back and try our wines once again on us. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you have a day in mind that would work best. Thank you!
Hi Rebecca! I am so happy that you enjoyed our share! It was last November when we visited. I will be sure to keep this in mind the next time we are in the area and I appreciate the offer!
