During our time on the Urban Bourbon Trail we experienced many different tours, tastings, distilleries, and even a winery! But out of all the bourbon-tastings in Louisville, the Evan Williams Speakeasy tour was one of our favourites. Located on ‘Whiskey Row’ in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, the Evan Williams speakeasy is absolutely beautiful. We chose to do the Speakeasy Tasting Experience and it was a wonderful peek into Prohibition life!
The 30-minute Speakeasy Tour is available Friday through Sunday only; and costs $20 per person.

Speakeasy Tasting Experience
Transporting you back in time, to the 1930s Prohibition era, the Evan William’s Speakeasy Tasting Experience includes a secret entry, historical tour, and tasting. Walk-ins are welcome, but are served on a first come first serve basis. I would definitely recommend reservations for whichever tour or tasting that you decide on. Tickets can be purchased online.
When we checked in, we were escorted downstairs to a door which required a secret passcode for entrance. It was so much fun and was just like the movies that portray the speakeasies from the time of prohibition.
The Prohibition
Once inside, we were greeted by our very energetic and humorous guide. He took us back to the 20’s and 30’s during prohibition – telling us stories of Kentucky’s bourbon heritage. He also told us about what the future held for the city once prohibition ended. A fun history lesson plus a tasting of four whiskeys from the Heaven Hill portfolio.
Commemorative Gifts
After your tour is complete, you are led back upstairs to the gift shop where you can collect your commemorative glasses (included on this particular tour)! The gift shop includes barware, clothing, and gourmet food (not to mention bourbon) and will hold your attention for a while.

This was definitely the most unique experience of all during of our time on the Urban Bourbon Trail. If you are in Kentucky, I would definitely recommend the Evan Williams Speakeasy Tour in Louisville. It’s a special treat with a trip back in time – an experience unlike any of the other tasting rooms. If you can’t make it to Kentucky, check out their online store – there are so many items that you won’t find anywhere else!
