Malamala Beach Club was the world’s first beach club and is located on its own private 5-acre island, just 25 minutes by boat from Port Denarau, Fiji. This beach club is a perfect day trip from Nadi and for those looking to explore some of the Mamanuca Islands. Here’s our complete guide on how to take a day trip to Malamala Beach Club in Fiji.

Malamala Island – the original beach club
Malamala Beach Club includes a restaurant, infinity pool, beach areas with crystal-clear waters, beach and pool cabanas, water sports and more. The pool area provides a club-like atmosphere with upbeat tunes, while the private cabanas and hammocks throughout the island give guests a tranquil relaxing vibe.
Upgrade Your Day
There are three different ways to upgrade your day at Malamala Beach Club.
The first option is a poolside day bed – These day beds are located in a prime location close to everything. With food, drinks, tunes and the infinity pool just steps away, these day beds keep you close to the action but furthest from the beach.
The second option is a beach cabana – These cabanas are very private and are located on the beach in a much quieter area. These cabanas include a day bed and beach chairs that are perfect for admiring the amazing ocean views or for taking a nap.
The third option is a grand beach cabana that can accommodate up to 8 guests – There are only 2 of these so it is highly recommended that you book in advance. The beach cabanas and the grand beach cabanas both come with butler service.
Butler Service
Both the beach cabana and the grand beach cabana come with butler service included. Upon arrival to the beach club you will check in. Here you will be assigned a butler and a cabana. You will also place a credit card on file for charges throughout your stay and you will be given a keycard to use for any charges while on the island. Your butler will also provide you with a phone so that you can call the restaurant to place your food and drink orders which he will deliver to you in your cabana. No need to walk over, everything is delivered to you. There is also a lockbox at the cabana that you are given a key to. You are able to use this box to lock away valuables during your stay.
Our butler was great. He delivered our orders quickly and checked on us routinely. When we walked over to the pool during the afternoon he found us and brought us drinks there as well. He kept our cooler stocked with ice and bottles of water during the day. After lunch he surprised us with fresh baked cookies. At the end of the day he brought our tab for everything we had purchased throughout the day and we were able to charge it to the card on file which he returned to us. We were able to do all of this from the convenience of our cabana without going to the desk or waiting in line.

Food at Malamala Beach Club
The menu at Malamala Beach Club comes from the chefs’ rich experience throughout the South Pacific. The menu has an array of options from light bites to full meals packed with fresh Pacific flavors. We feasted upon the Fijian chicken curry, the Malamala fries, and the harvest wrap while quenching our thirst with a crisp glass of wine and a fruity mocktail. The portions were plentiful and the flavors were fantastic. There are also drink specials available for the day that you can ask about on arrival.

Island Activities and Massages
We were visiting Fiji at the end of a month long trip to the South Pacific that included some very busy adventures in Australia and New Zealand. Our biggest goal was to relax and enjoy some downtime before returning to the US. We spent most of our day relaxing in our cabana with butler service. Taking naps, swaying under the palm trees in the hammocks and swimming in the infinity pool.
For the more active day tripper, Malamala Beach Club offers complimentary use of non-motorized water sports equipment for snorkeling, kayaking and paddle boarding. The crystal-clear waters of Fiji are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Whether you choose to relax or play is completely up to you.
For the ultimate relaxation, make sure to book a massage. This unforgettable experience is set among the lush tropical gardens and cooled by the ocean breeze. There are many options to choose from on the spa menu including options for couples. These services can be booked at the reception desk.
But don’t forget, the saying goes, you haven’t really been to Malamala if you haven’t jumped off the jetty! Payton obliged!

The Beaches & Island Landscapes
Surrounded by beautiful and clear waters, this petite island is small enough to stroll around in about 20 minutes. There are turtle nesting sites, which are protected and cordoned off. This area also includes a shaded lounging area and picnic tables – for those who want to relax surrounded by nature.
There are white sand beaches all around the island, and the beach club offers snorkel and non-motorised water sport equipment. Grab a snorkel and enjoy the blue Fijian waters!

Weddings, Proposals, Events and Parties
Malamala Beach Club offers the perfect romantic setting for weddings, elopements, vow renewals and proposals. Whether you are looking for an intimate celebration for the two of you in a private cabana or a large wedding of up to 300 guests, they have packages to accommodate all of the above.
When it comes to parties and events, Malamala can host everything from small events to celebrate milestones to large corporate functions for up to 400 guests. You can even rent out the whole island for yourself – contact us for destination wedding planning!
The boat to and from the private island
Your day pass to Malamala includes your boat transportation to and from the island operated by South Sea Cruises. Vessel transfers depart Port Denarau at 10am and 12pm daily, arriving at Malamala Beach Club at 10:30am and 12:30pm. Departures from Malamala Beach Club are at 4:15pm and 5:15pm daily arriving back at 4:45pm and 5:45pm.
It is important to check your coach’s pick-up time from your resort or hotel. Since we were staying at the Sheraton Fiji on Denarau our shuttle allowed us to stay until the 5:15pm departure.
