2 Days in Niagara Falls

2 days in Niagara Falls will give you a great feel for the city, and an idea of where you might like to visit on a longer vacation. You can enjoy the majesty of the falls, visit both sides of the border, and enjoy some of the entertainment and restaurants on offer.

Itinerary for 2 days in Niagara Falls

Niagara – US side

Maid of the Mist

The Maid of the Mist is one of the most famous boat tours in the world. Leaving from the US side of Niagara, the Maid will take you right up into the mists of the falls. You wear ponchos to keep you dry, but expect to still get wet. I would recommend you bring a waterproof phone case or go-pro camera to take photos.

You can buy tickets in advance or at the ticket office; or combine it with a Cave of the Winds tour or Walking Tour of Niagara.

The Canadian version is called ‘The Hornblower’ and offers the same amazing excursion, but from the Canadian side.

You can combine a Maid of the Mist ticket with a Canadian Niagara tour also!

Niagara Falls State Park

Niagara Falls State Park is also located on the US side of the falls. The state park includes multiple hiking trails with breathtaking views. Known as some of the best hiking trails in the country there are both easy trails and more challenging sections that include steep stairs to climb and rocks to scramble over. Trail maps are provided for easy navigation.

Niagara Falls Fireworks + Illuminations

The falls are illuminated at night, making the fast moving water look otherworldly. They change the colors of the illuminations in recognition of important dates and events.

The fireworks run 3-4 times per night – usually starting at 21:30 and running each hour – however always check the website, as this can change depending on travel restrictions or weather.

Niagara – Canada side

Crossing Rainbow Bridge

One of the great things about approaching Niagara from the US side is that you get to cross the Rainbow Bridge. You can walk across in 5 minutes, or drive / take a taxi. Walking across is a great way to see the view of the falls.

It also happens to be a great spot from which to catch the fireworks!

You are crossing an international border over this bridge, so you will need to bring your passport and leave time to clear border control.

Skylon Tower

The Skylon Tower punctuates the Niagara skyline and affords incredible views over both the Canadian Horseshoe Falls and American Falls over in New York. Watching the sunset over Niagara Falls from the Skylon Tower is a special treat.

You can buy tickets to the observation deck online, or consider dining at the Skylon Tower revolving dining room for a spectacular evening.

There are only a handful of revolving restaurants in Canada, and Skylon has one! Whether you are enjoying the majesty of the view at lunchtime, or visiting for the sunset – the 360 degree view is unparalleled.

Riverwalk

Payton’s favorite part of our Niagara trips is always the Riverwalk. You can get a bird’s eye view of the falls, watch the boats float into the mist, see the illuminations, and enjoy the riverwalk activities, entertainment and cafes.

Anywhere along this promenade is great for watching the nightly fireworks.

If you want to take a look BEHIND the falls, check out the Journey Behind the Falls. The entrance is near the Falls Viewpoint and Information Center.

Niagara Zipline

If you’re an adrenalin junkie like Payton, you’ll love the WildPlay Zipline to the Falls. Running from near the Funicular and War Memorial down towards the Horseshoe Falls, you will drop nearly 2,200 feet and land on the roof of the observation deck.

It’s best to get your tickets in advance to ensure you get a place – especially on busy weekends and holidays.

Tourist Trail

The great part about popular visitor destinations is that amusements, museums, curiosities, and midway-style fun is built to keep tourists happy and entertained on their vacations.

If you’re spending 2 days in Niagara Falls with your family; the Canadian side has a wide range of visitor attractions.
