Tybee Island
Tybee Island is one of the most accessible beach vacation spots in Georgia. A quick 30 minute drive takes you from downtown Savannah to Tybee – so it’s perfect for weekends away. If you’re looking for an accessible east coast beach option, there are lots of accommodation options and beach houses along the Tybee coast.
Tybee beach house options include large apartments with direct beach access & kids playground, to cute cottages, like the North Beach Nook, with both beach and amenity access, great for families. For something a little more laid back, why not rent a house on Back River, with a dock and verandah!
Don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about the Gullah and Geechee cultures while you’re in Tybee.
Darien
If you’re looking for more of a Dawson’s Creek experience, consider the creeks and inlets of Darien. Laid back creekside bars and restaurants, fishing and great boating and water sport opportunities.
Try Camp Nina for a quaint homestay style dockside experience; or choose a bed & breakfast for that true homelike feel. If you prefer hotels, the cute verandah rooms at the Darien Dockside Inn would be a perfect Georgia coastal break.
Saint Simons Island
Saint Simons Island is a place you visit to just chill and enjoy the wonderful Georgia hospitality. Don’t miss the fantastic Southern Soul Barbeque (2020 Demere Rd), and a visit to the St. Simons Island Lighthouse Museum.
Having a large family reunion to plan for? Why not go all out and hire the five bedroom Seahorse Villa, with a private pool and only 50m from East Beach on Saint Simons Island. Or you can enjoy the sea breeze on the verandah of Belle Cottage, an easy 400m from the beach. Or if you want a dog-friendly property (near a dog friendly beach), why not rent the cute Pineapple Cottage for the summer!
Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island is probably the most famous of all the barrier islands, and therefore has some of the best Georgia beach house vacation options. Although this can sometimes mean it’s on the more expensive side. But don’t let that deter you, you can still find bargains, especially in the off-season.
Enjoy the wild Driftwood beach, sunsets over the shrimp boats… alongside world class restaurants and amenities. Rent a cottage by the sea and the Great Dunes; or if you wanted something truly luxurious, why not treat yourselves to the Jekyll Island Club Resort.
St Marys / Cumberland Island
Sshhhh, don’t tell anyone about Cumberland Island, it’s too beautiful to share! Once a summer home to a Carnegie brother, it is now home to the ruins of his mansion, Dungeness. It is a National Seashore, with many historic buildings on it. You can camp on there (our preferred accommodations), or splash out on the magnificent historic house, Greyfield Inn. If you’re visiting or camping, be sure to book and pay the park service in St Marys.
Because accommodation is limited on the island, it’s easier to find beach house locations in and around St Marys. The Riverview Hotel is a good option for a short stay – with period features and packed lunches offered for your day trip to Cumberland.
