We visited Helen Georgia on a whim, as a way to have some real down time after a busy period. We were looking for pet-friendly accommodation, near the river so that John could go fishing. And within walking distance of downtown Helen. We found Bear Creek Lodge & Cabins, and it turned out to be the perfect spot to relax and unwind.
Disclaimer: We were hosted by Bear Creek Lodge & Cabins. However, as always, all opinions are my own.

The Setting
There are 7 cabins in all tucked into the mountain and valley sitting on over 9 acres of beautiful mountain terrain complete with spring fed creeks, waterfalls, and trails.
When we arrived, we were kindly greeted by the owners, Pam and Earl. They gave us a tour of the common area on the riverbank that is for guests only. Over 300 feet of waterfront on the Chattahoochee River complete with hammocks, swings, cozy outdoor seating, a fire pit, grills, tubes, fishing, and a bubble box that Payton immediately fell in love with. I think John would have been happy if they had told us that we had to camp right there.
The Lodge
The Lodge is the largest of the accommodations at Bear Creek. An original mountain home built in the 1940s, this 3,500 sq.ft. house sleeps 13 people! With a magnificent covered front porch, perfect for taking in the beautiful view, the lodge is rustic luxury and history combined.

The History
My favorite part of the Lodge, was the amount of history that Pam and Earl have preserved and share with their guests. Payton was thrilled to see items that she has only read about in books and some items that she has never even heard of before. I think the typewriter was her favorite, considering that she has one and prefers it over her laptop to write her stories.

The Rooms
Payton was quick to choose her room. A room with a cozy little alcove built into the wall. Ever since we visited Monticello she has wanted one of these to sleep in, so her mind was made up. She slept here all 3 nights during our stay.
John and I chose the room closest to her with a king size bed and private bath. There was another room, with a screened in porch adjacent to it that would’ve been our first pick – but all the rooms are wonderful. We could not get over how much room the Lodge has to offer. It would be perfect for large families or multi-generational families that are traveling together.

Outdoor Spaces
The outdoor space is just as accommodating as the inside. You feel as though you are located far away on the side of a mountain when you are actually only steps away from downtown Helen. My favourite spot was the front porch where you can hear the river flow past. I enjoyed my coffee here each morning.
If you follow the stream that runs below the Lodge, it leads to a tranquil waterfall. Pam and Earl have gone to great effort to make this area extremely inviting in both day and night. We enjoyed our nights stargazing from this area, enjoying the stars and the campfire.

Fishing
John enjoyed being able to fish every day of our stay without having to load up and drive to another location. For anyone that loves to trout fish in North Georgia, you cannot find a better place to stay.
I am not much into fishing, but it provided perfect daddy-daughter time while I relaxed in the hammocks. Payton even caught her first trout while the guests on tubes floated by and cheered her on. There were some wonderful memories made during this stay.
The three of us truly enjoyed the beautiful river. There is something very relaxing about being on the water. Whether you fish or not, Bear Creek Lodge & Cabins is such a laid back place to unwind.

Pet-Friendly Cabins
To say that the Bear Creek Lodge & Cabins in Helen GA are pet-friendly is a bit of an understatement. They are pet accommodating and welcoming of pets of all sizes. Better yet, there is no additional charge for pets! We couldn’t believe just how pet-friendly the cabins are – which was great for us, as we too often have to travel without our dogs because of accommodation restrictions.

Hiking
Another benefit of Bear Creek Lodge and Cabins is the hiking trails on site. We love exploring the outdoors and were fascinated when Earl told us about an original gold mine located on the property. Thanks to Earl’s directions, the signs provided on the trail (and John’s intuition), we had no trouble finding the entrance to the gold mine. As a homeschooling family, this was the perfect opportunity to teach Payton the history of the original discovery of gold in North Georgia.

The Other Cabins at Bear Creek Lodge
The Log Cabin
The Log Cabin is a beautiful example of a 1928 log cabin. Each stone hauled up from the river by the couple who built it. This cabin has a rustic charm and warmth that would be perfect for a relaxing getaway. There is also a lot of history preserved in this cabin – antique furniture and mementos of the past. This cabin sleeps 4, although the Log Cabin and Fisherman’s Cabin can be rented together and will sleep 10.

Fisherman’s Cabin
The Fisherman’s Cabin is an angler’s dream. Right on the river, this offers the most appealing option for trout and fly fishing enthusiasts. Fisherman’s Cabin can sleep 6 people, and is next to the Log Cabin.

The Cozy Cottage
This bijou hideaway is a romantic dream. With only one bed, a basic kitchen, bathroom, and covered porch, the Cozy Cottage suits its name. It is set over a creek, and surrounded by forest, so is a piece of perfect seclusion. The Cozy Cottage sleeps 2 max (in the same bed).

Treehouse Cabin
With a wrap-around porch, the Treehouse Cabin is set high among the oaks and maples and overlooks a waterfall. The outdoor space provided with The Treehouse Cabin is extraordinary – lots of comfy outdoor seating and a private hot tub. The Treehouse Cabin offers a dynamic space for up to 5 visitors.

There are 2 other cabins that we didn’t get to view – The Goldminer’s Cabin, and Riverview Cabin. These sleep 9 and 5 respectively.
Pet-friendly Bear Creek Lodge & Cabins in Helen GA
We loved the Lodge and all it offered during our stay at Bear Creek Lodge and Cabins. The fishing, hiking, and relaxing waterfalls were all icing on the cake. We have enjoyed vacations in Helen Georgia many times, but this one spent at Bear Creek Lodge and Cabins really was the most relaxing.

This place sounds amazing! I’m from the UK and love the idea of camping in the US. I’m also looking at travelling with an RV, do they have space for those here? Going to pin this to keep it in mind when we plan our trip 🙂
Hi. This is Pam with Bear Creek Lodge and Cabins. We do not have RV spots at this time just Cabins. But Unicoi State Park in just 5 minutes from us and has great RV accommodations.
This looks just like a step back in time! Would love to stay here!!
I think my favorite part is that Payton got to see things she had only ever heard of, and had never seen.
This place looks like an amazing place to visit. Stepping back in time and seeing some history with the Model T Ford!

It looks so peaceful and relaxing! Might have to think about planning a trip to Georgia someday.
Wow – how breathtaking. The fact they are doing so much to preserve the old-time feel. I am not big on camping but recently I have started running trails and hiking so I believe it is only natural to put a cabin trip on my bucket list. I always imagine going to Vermont in the winter to get way in a cabin in the mountains with a hot tub while snow is falling. Your pics here make me want to also visit in the warmer months – thanks for your thorough post – I wouldn’t think of Georgia as a camping destination.
What an absolutely charming place! This is the kind of place I love to stay and relax! I’ll keep this in mind if we ever head out that direction! I’ll also suggest it as an option for my dad’s upcoming family reunion planning! Gorgeous!
I’d really like to stay in a cabin with my family! I’m sure it would be quite an experience.
Unique, groovy and fun! What a great place – too bad it is across the USA from me. Loved all the photos.
