If you’re looking for a family activity to do on your visit to Greece, an Athens cooking class is a fantastic option. We had so much fun making a meal while looking out towards the Parthenon. Food is a huge part of why we travel, so taking cooking classes while we are away is one of our favorite things to do on vacation.

Why take a cooking class while you travel?
For us, travel is all about seeing new places, experiencing new cultures and trying the local cuisine! We often come back from a place and relive our vacation by teaching ourselves recipes from the destination.
Taking a cooking class while you are away is a great way to introduce flavors, understand traditions and get accustomed to unfamiliar ingredients.
Greek food
Greek and Mediterranean food is some of the healthiest, freshest food in the world. From creamy feta cheese to tangy olives, and juicy tomatoes. It is one of our favorite cuisines! Some Greek dishes include falafel, which are crispy fried chickpea balls, tzatziki (a crisp, refreshing yogurt dip that I could literally eat with a spoon), and, of course, the salads!
Did I mention the warm and cozy baked eggplant? Yummy!
Everything is covered in authentic extra virgin olive oil too.

What happens at an Athens cooking class
At this cooking class, we sat with some other people at a table, where the chef taught us the basics from the head of the table.
Everyone got a chance to help prepare the food for themselves. We each had a cutting board in front of us, so we could chop and slice the ingredients. It was a great way to not only learn about exquisite food but also mingle with the others at the class.
We prepared a traditional Greek salad (horiatiki), cheese-spinach pie (spanakotiropita), stuffed vine leaves, and more. We couldn’t wait to try all the dishes!

Eating the food afterwards
After we were done cooking, everyone went upstairs to a nice table with views of Athens. Dinner was served!
Every bit of it was absolutely amazing. From the cool and tangy tzatziki, to the crisp, fresh salad and crispy zucchini balls. It would be hard to eat just one!
Everyone got a chance to sample their culinary creations. I loved everything we cooked and ate.

Comparing cooking classes
A few weeks before we made this irresistible Greek food, we attended a cooking class in Lisbon, Portugal.
While the Greek cooking class was around a table that the food was prepared at, the Portuguese class was in an actual kitchen.
Everyone had a turn to try their hand at Portuguese cooking. In the same way as the Greek class, we got to eat it all afterwards!
We had a great chef at each class. These classes were different from each other, but we enjoyed them both. Different setup, equally mouthwatering food!

Taking a Greek cooking class in Athens
I highly recommend a Greek cooking class in Athens. Not only is it hands-on and creative, but it is so much fun. Whether you regularly cook or not, this is still a great way to try something new.
All ages will enjoy a class like this one. A cooking class will be a great add on to your Greek cruise vacation, and the whole group will have a great time. Don’t miss this delicious opportunity!
